Tim Pool - Principal Cornet Tim started playing the trumpet at primary school at the age of eight, and moved onto the cornet a few months later, where he was taught by Christopher Wood. He started banding at Queensbury Junior Band where he played principal cornet. During his time at school he played with many school bands and musical groups, winning the Brass Cup in 1998 at the North Halifax Grammar School. Tim passed his Grade 8 at the age of seventeen, taught by Derek Southcott, and joined the Yorkshire Building Society Concert Brass Band a year later in 1999. In the same year he started studying for a degree at Huddersfield University where he played soprano cornet with the university band under Phillip McCann. He joined Yorkshire Building Society Concert Brass Band on soprano cornet, moving on to repiano cornet and flugal horn, before taking the position of principal in 2007. After
completing teacher training at Leeds University, Tim now teaches in
a primary school in Leeds and continues to convert many of his pupils
to the brass ranks. |
