In 1947 Hammonds Sauce Company Limited sponsored the band and changed its name to the Hammonds Sauce Works Band. In June 1993 the long association with Hammonds came to an end and the Yorkshire Building Society took over the sponsorship of the family of three brass bands. The middle band which was known as Hammonds Hawley Band became the Yorkshire Building Society Concert Brass. This new name brought with it a new determination and focus, going from strength to strength climbing the divisions from 4th to 1st and representing Yorkshire at the National Brass Band Finals several times.
The band is twinned with the Music School in Hamm, the twin town of Shipley and Bradford and was honoured to play at the 775 th Anniversary celebrations of the City Charter. Over three thousand people were involved in the parade in which the Concert Brass took pride of place following the Lord Mayor. The Band and the Hamm Music School have visited each other several times since then and have received another invitation for next year.
YBS Concert Brass has a loyal following of music lovers and has an extremely varied repertoire, from classical masterpieces to modern day popular music, including Glen Miller, jazz, pop and modern musicals. They have played at many differing concert venues, from football matches at Bradford City to wedding, private dinners and garden parties, under the baton of Musical Director, Ian Craddock. |
